419 Veronese Cafe and Gallery

Our next Muses Meeting will be held there.
I have a gleaned a few more ideas and thoughts, while there actually, by talking with a friend about it. Not anything incredibly huge, but helpful I think.

Also, we should try talking with the people at Veronese to find out how they got started, because there are a lot of similarities to what we want to do. Just being there and seeing the menu and such caused me to realize some things.

Unfortunately... I'm not sure that we'll be able to do this before you two leave for New York, although, Chelsea and I are going there on Friday next, perhaps she could be a part of a meeting...? Let me know what you think, and I'll ask her if that's fine.

I should be doing research on Maurice Ravel.

Idea for another activity we can do together, say on friday nights after group again.

We should have sharing nights where we teach each other things.

I could teach everyone how to belly dance, for instance. ;) (...well.. I really could. ~shrug~ the basics anyways) Or another form of dance.

We could have a salsa night and teach each other what we've picked up from our individual experiences. Or swing, etc.

Heather, you could teach basic art lessons or something.

We could bring friends who are really good at something and willing to join us and teach us something new. I bet my friend Corrie would teach basic ballet lessons! she's offered to teach a lesson on wednesday nights in the music building to some of us for free, just cause she loves it and misses it.

Sarah, when we have a sharing night, you should read one of your short stories.
You could also go over what you're currently working on and risk asking our advice on things if you think it would be beneficial.

okay.
I feel inspired that what we want could come about in a very simple, natural way.
yay!

community

Community has been my key word lately. Fellowship is so important. It is hard too keep in touch with people when there is no central meeting place.

In the past, communities used to grow naturally out from a marketplace or a church. I guess it still happens; the shopping mall, for instance. It's kind of funny how there can be so many people in one place and almost never talk to each other. but I guess community happens even in those circumstances. It is just being there with others that makes a community of people.

It is the same with religious gatherings. People come at a set place and time to mingle, listen to a sermon or take part in some kind of ceremony. It is about doing things together as a unit.

I have found it hard to find a creative community to participate in. The muses is an attempt at this.

The reason community is so satisfying is because it continues to exist even between gatherings. It dwells deep down in the psyche where you know you are not alone.

muses meeting

I wish it wasn't so hard to find times to meet all together. maybe we could try a saturday morning at the cafe in downtown fullerton. That would be cool if we could have a set date once a month to meet there. That way other people would know where and when to find us if they want to join. Conversation just isn't the same over the internet.

I think we need to have more friday night poetry events too.

It would also be cool to have a weekly blog post to keep people interested if they want to keep in touch with our muses group or become a part of it.
