time is running down

Sarah and I are on break, and we're all together, yet we've not met as Muses yet.
My break is rapidly coming to a close, and is filling up quickly.
I now only have tomorrow morning and afternoon, or early morning Saturday to meet.
Please choose a time SOON!!!

I agree that we should meet. I was just going through the Book, organizing the random 'Better Homes and Gardens' pages that I ripped out mercilessly. Anyway, so when? Where? We could meet at McClains, or that nice Downtown Fullerton courtyard. Sometime we should include Soren, and see what he says.

Dreams only come true if you work hard

SO...

A friend I have who wants to start a bakery.
Another friend I have who would like to own a book store.
We three, indeed, do want to start a boheimian academy, it seems. A community of sharing, discussing, and learning.

Down stairs shall be the books and bakery, with wooden stairs that lead to the upper room, where sit people with their bread, pastries and books, or paint their canvas being inspired by a friend, or smell, or the music that another shares. Some listen, some discus, some ponder, some are lost. Lost in a world within the pages that they hold. And in the back, either above or below, are studios, two to be precise. From one is heard melodious sound, or perhaps not so very melodious. From the other the smell of oil paint floats.
The floors are wood, the draperies all around, and the smell of old books mixes with those smells of bread, spices and the like.

Think you, my sweets, that this is that of which we dream?

I dream of it, and hope that it may be.

But for it to become a reality, we must all three meet and plan and scheme.

comment no

It is November
The fire is over
The air is more crispy
With breezes all whispy

and sweet.

This makes life more lovely
but my dear little dovey
There is something missing
and it has nothing to do with kissing

Your feet.

The sisterly muses
Need desperately to chooses
A place and a time
(That will hopefully rhymn...)

To meet

Sunday, October 28, 2007

no comment

it's almost november
firey weather
no chill in the sky
my lips are dry

and chapped

when muses get together
life just seems better
our business is growing
so when are we going

to meet?

Lalalalala, I sing for you.

Here is an interesting coffee shop that Miss Vander Wall told me about. I would have put it in the links... but it isn't really available in California. Owing to the fact that it is on Colorado, I would assume that it is a bit longer than a day trip. ^_^

ideas ideas ideas

I think we need to develop our concept more, in addition to researching the legalities of running a business. maybe we should consider a simple theoretical business concept first... like a coffee shop that sells just coffee and scones, for a start, or a bookstore that only sells rare editions of classics, or a tutoring center for art or voice lessons.... and try to visualize what each would involve.

Right now we're trying to put everything into one business, and it just isn't realistic. Undine, you want to teach voice, in addition to running a cafe, and making the pastries yourself. That's 3 full-time jobs right there, y'know, plus the triple ownership of the business will require some time. On the other hand, it could be arranged for me to be the business owner and manager (I don't know if I'd like that... maybe Daniel can take over for me) ...Owner and manager can also be separate. Daniel can be owner and I can be manager, and you can be baker and cafe server... d'you see? I think we are all interested in the domestic arts, and not at all ready for the business side of things.

I have also thought of creating a partnership with the Art House. I don't know how it would work, exactly, but I'm thinking that something like a cafe/gallery right near the art house would be good for both businesses... just food for thought. Parents of the kids who go to the art house and the dancespot could stop in for an hour to enjoy a cup of coffee, and view the artwork on the walls, or read a book. Maybe this isn't the clientelle that you have been imagining, but I think it would be a good strategy, because the clientelle is already there. It could become a small, independent cultural center. This idea, I just realized, is just like the way bergamot station is run. It has a museum and independent galleries, and a cafe. There isn't any centralized organization.

Okay... let's make the above our theoretical business concept. What would it take to get started with that? We would need to rent a space in the same location, perhaps to begin with we could buy the coffee and bagels from costco, and purchase the essential equipment to make and serve the coffee. we would need some construction work done. We need a back office, and a counter to separate the work space. And room for storage. We need furniture, and somekind of sound system for music.

This is just a step up from a corner lemonade stand, except for the fact that if we consider ourselves a business, the legalities would include a licence to serve food... there would have to be an official inspection to get it. We probably wouldn't pass the first time, and we'd have to get a bunch of things done to make them happy. We would need to keep perfect records of expenses and profit. We would need a computer and a bookeeping program for that. We need to get a business licence. I'm figuring that part out right now. There are lots of different business structures that we would have to choose from.

We would also need to advertise. We couldn't make ends meet if our only clients are parents of art house kids, especially when a drive-thru starbucks is just down the road. (and there's a jack-in-the-box just yards away) We would need something unique about our business to get people to come. Our initial clientelle would be mostly middle-aged asian folk. Sorry, but the gypsy-look may not work for them. What could we provide that these customers would want? We can't expect people to come just for the atmosphere.

*add witty saying here*

So, about a month has gone by. Our last meeting was on September 16th, in the evening glow of Lizzy's dorm room. Heather wants to have our next meeting (which should be sometime next week) at McClaines. Personally, I am not a fan of the service, the lady who runs the place(from what I have heard) or the direction that their clientele tends. I didn't feel very welcome there, even though their couches are awesomely shaped, and the back of the place reminds me of the cabin, or something of the like. I would rather meet in a setting of our own devising and forming (like last month).

So, look at the 'to do' list that I posted so long ago, and see if you can accomplish any of it. I hope something has been done. Also, Heath, be a dear and show us the wonders of that new book that you have been looking at. That and the '10 steps' thing could easily be the main content of this next meeting. What say you, ladies?

career girl

Hey, Flower-san! memoirs of a geisha is a great example of how social networks operate. We should take note and start rubbing elbows with people (figuratively, of course). assignment: find someone who might know someone involved in publishing, and talk to them - ask questions, etc. : )

To Do:

The Lou Undine: Research food source. No trash cans, but maybe Costco. Also, Food licenses.

The Heather Sushi: We should cook you before we eat you. Before that ever happens though, you must finish three tasks, and you will be declared Princess, then eaten in Japanese restaurant. Look up technical licenses, financial details, and send my the '10 steps' web page so I can type my stuff.

The Sarah Flowers: Organize info, type up lovely-ness, act Secretary like. Keep the others sane, with insanity.

Saturday-Meeting-Auditions-Should-Die

My children, we have a meeting planned for saturday, no? What time? Where? Eep! I need details for my poor spirit to be at peace, and also so that I can jot it down in my planner.
Anyway...I survived auditions fairly well. ^_^ I sang out, but it was easy to tell that I was nervous : P The dance was tons of fun, as well as the lines. Especially that 'freakin' jibberish sploich line. Hehe. So, I am alive, didn't have to fake my own death, and await the call back list on Thursday. (augh, so far away.... ah well says I, and I stick my tongue out with a 'thpplb')

my brain is doing backflips

Flowers is our organizational genius! She has generously created our first management and idea log... or whatever you want to call it. I think we should call it steve... or bubble... or maybe just plain chipotle. How about Chip? No... Ambrosia! Amber? Goldenrod? ...

peace, prosperity, and sushi for all

ok darlings, here's my masterpiece. Undine, I like the colors you chose for the background and the text. Let's meet on saturday morning at starbucks... or java co, since we are sworn enemies of the corporate alliance, and vow to support the little man... and woman : )

Buenas Dias Mi Hermanas

The new blog description is better. Thanks. and I love the name!
I created a blog with that title now, insteed of the tree one. I'll add myself as an author.
Sushi, are you going to scan the picture you drew to use on our blog?

Creative ideas: well, first off, we should record the ideas we've already thrown out there.

-A house near a university. (possibly Biola)
-Transform it into a library/cafe/music room/art gallery.
-Display Sushi's art, as well as other locals who frequent our arts den.
-Comfortable, cozy, clustered and individual seating for groups and individuales to study, discuss, read, etc. (I suggest some pillowy corners with a coffee table).
-Homey, lovely lighting. Warm and somewhat dim overall, but with stronger lighting in seating areas for readers.
-A cafe that serves coffee, tea, scones (made by me ~smiles~), and sandwiches (and other special items sometimes).
-A Piano in one corner of a large room.
-Tapestries and curtains all over for an amazing gypsy, cozy feel.
-Music nights with guest performers (and myself sometimes)
-Shubertiads where our guest can perform music for us and each other.
-Poetry nights for people to share their works, or their favorite works by other poets.
-Open all night during finals week with super cheap coffee.
-Either they pay for admittance and can stay as long as they want, or pay for memberships, or both so that those who don't come regularly enough to have memberships pay per visit.

Anything else...? ~smiles~ It's all so lovely.

sorry, chica

I changed the blog description. (It was a little mushy for me, Im' afraid) Feel free to chide me for taking liberties. Yes, I changed the names (Undine just popped into my little head; I thought you'd like it). Feel free to change the names back, but I thought it might be nice for them to correspond with our individual blog sites. If we make up too many names for ourselves, all the little people out there might get confused. And besides, I think there should be a classical muse named sushi.

hola, chicas

Methinks we need a bit more information written about our business endeavor, ladies. Is this even a buisiness that we are planning here? what we have on this blog is a little online community of three; the "society of the three muses" A business takes a lot of marketing and financing and paperwork etc. It is worth talking and dreaming about, but let's save the more technical details to our monthly meetings. We can use the blog to plan our meetings and post events, etc. Let's face it: this business will likely remain only a figment of our imaginations (not that I'm saying it isn't possible) but it is the very thing I need to begin setting goals for the future. And, since I am the only one here who has graduated from college, I know I will be the one trying to think more practically. I need you girls to help keep these refreshingly ridiculous ideas coming.

How Exciting!

This will be very fun, m'dears. What wonderful things come out of tea time chats. I shall eventually... potentually... hopefully pull together a lovely library for the literary lovelyness. Yay for library book sales! The next is: October 5-7 at the Fullerton Library. Don't let me forget!

Cheers!
